PADI 5-Star Dive Centre, Playa Blanca

Dive College Lanzarote is a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Centre situated directly on the beach in Playa Blanca, the southern tip of Lanzarote. Since 2001, our team of multilingual PADI instructors has been guiding beginners, certified divers and aspiring professionals through some of the island’s best dive sites, including Museo Atlántico, the world’s first underwater museum in a Marine Protected Area.

We offer try dives, PADI dive courses from Open Water to Divemaster, daily guided boat and shore dives, and freediving. Our beachside location means no transport to and from dive sites – you step off the beach and straight into the water.

A team you can trust

Our instructors include professionals with over 20 years of experience in Lanzarote’s waters, some have been with us since before the centre had a proper sign on the door. The team speaks English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Italian, and all hold specialist Museo Atlántico guide certification. Meet our dive team.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and Playa Blanca in particular is one of the best places on the island to start. The water is calm, clear and warm year-round, with visibility typically reaching 20 to 30 metres. Water temperature ranges from around 18°C in winter to 24°C in summer, which means a standard 5mm wetsuit is comfortable in all seasons. The volcanic seabed creates genuinely varied dive sites: lava formations, sandy flats where angel sharks rest, walls covered in gorgonians, and the Museo Atlántico sculptures just offshore in a Marine Protected Area. There are no dangerous currents at the main Playa Blanca sites, which makes it suitable for beginners and experienced divers alike.

Each island has its strengths. Gran Canaria is rated highly for biodiversity, particularly around the El Cabrón Marine Reserve. El Hierro offers exceptional visibility and encounters with whale sharks. Tenerife is known for wreck diving and sea turtles. Lanzarote stands out for two things that the others cannot match: the volcanic underwater landscape around Playa Blanca and the Museo Atlántico — Europe’s first underwater sculpture museum, located in a Marine Protected Area accessible directly from our centre. For divers who want a destination that combines accessible conditions, strong marine life and a genuinely unique dive site, Lanzarote is consistently at the top of the list. We have been diving these waters since 2001 and know them in a way that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

Yes. We run a dedicated beginners’ programme for the Museo Atlántico that requires no prior diving experience or certification. It includes a theory session, a shallow pool introduction and a supervised dive to the sculptures – all in one day or split over two half-days. Snorkelling visits to the site are also available, although diving gives you a much better view of the detail in Jason deCaires Taylor’s sculptures, which sit at depths of 12 to 15 metres. The museum is the most requested experience at our centre and one of the few places in the world where a first dive takes you straight to an internationally recognised work of art. You can find full details on our Museo Atlántico beginners page.

Any month. Lanzarote’s subtropical climate means the water is diveable every day of the year, and we are open year-round. That said, each season has a character of its own. Summer (June to September) brings the warmest water – around 22 to 24°C – and the calmest sea conditions, which is ideal for first-time divers and families. Visibility is consistently strong. Autumn (October and November) is the sweet spot for experienced divers: water temperature is still warm, jellyfish have moved on, and marine activity peaks. Winter (November to April) is prime time for angel shark sightings — these large, flat sharks rest on the sandy bottom at shallow sites around Playa Blanca and are one of Lanzarote’s most iconic encounters. Spring brings improving conditions and the first influx of migratory species. In short, there is no bad time to dive here — the choice depends on what you want to see.

Back for more Absolutely amazing experience. All staff professional and there is a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere there. You can laugh with these guys and it puts you very much at ease. I tired scuba diving for the first time at Dive college in October 2021 I was so nervous but these guys are patient. My stomach had butterflies. I had a free trial in the pool first and then a try dive. I always felt safe and looked after.I was so at ease after my first experience I came back for more in April 2022 and did another try dive and the Museum Atlantico loved it.So BACK I came again this year and have done the Flamingo wall dive. Even though still an amateur I was guided by a professional diver and it is so beautiful under the ocean. These guys are AMAZING please try it. No one could possibly have been more nervous about it than me. I DID IT not just once but 3 times. I'm coming back for more in November.Had an amazing time definitely very much a BUNCH OF SPECIAL people, to me ANYWAY.

Great team supporting my kids with their first diving experience. Found Dive College to be one of few that offered diving for kids (8 & 11 years old) and I booked the bubbelmaker experience through whatsapp. Upon arrival kids were geared up and got the diving instructions in their native language (Dutch). Quick tester in the swimming pool and off into the great ocean. Kids very much enjoyed their first diving experience and we have the video's and photo's to make the memory ever lasting!

Great Experience, what are you waiting for? We're currently on our way back to our hotel with the transfer option they have available. It was a great experience and the under water museum was fantastic. The staff were professional, polite, accommodating and a laugh to be around. Myself and my partner highly recommend them and the museum Atlantic. We looked through all the reviews beforehand, which most negative ones seem to expect a refund because they can't tolerate the activity. If in doubt I'd suggest doing a try dive before deciding if you want to spend the extra money for a more intense experience. Thank you Dive College and all your staff for an unforgettable experience. Fantastic entry point for anyone uncomfortable in water I (M32) took my mother (F57) along to try something out of our comfort zone. I'm not a particularly strong swimmer, but found this to be an absolutely great experience, and we're both delighted for having tried it. Throughout we were looked after and made to feel really safe.Mara picked us up and took us to the Dive College. We struggled into our wetsuits, got sorted out with flippers and snorkeling gear before heading down to the beach to swim out to the boat. Initially this felt quite daunting, but we were assured the suits would help keep us afloat, and once the flippers were on swimming in the sea -- even in choppy waves -- was really easy. Once on the boat, it was just a short 5 minute journey to the outside of Flamingo Beach, where we left the boat and entered the water. We swam around the outside of the rocks before entering the enclosed part of beach, all the while seeing a great range of life under water. Once we got into the enclosed part of the beach we spotted a few stingrays and took our time to explore. After about 25 minutes or more we slowly headed back to the boat, before getting taken back to the Dive College. We never felt rushed and was a great value (€38 for maybe 40-50 minutes in the water).Definitely something I want to do again, and felt like a great first step for trying scuba diving next time.Be sure to take towels and water for when you get out (you'll invariably drink some salt water when you're snorkeling).

Wonderful holiday activity This paddleboarding experience was so much fun! We were both total beginners, but Mara guided us through it and we were standing up and enjoying ourselves in no time. The session takes place in the Flamingo beach cove, so there were quite a lot of other swimmers and paddle boarders all around that we had to steer around - so not quite as private as we had expected from the photos but nonetheless had a blast and would absolutely do it again.
