Diving at Moray Reef
Located right in front of the dive centre in Playa Blanca, Moray reef is one of the most accessible and rewarding shore dives in Lanzarote. This site is suitable for divers of all experience levels, making it a great choice for both beginners and more experienced divers looking for a relaxed but wildlife-rich dive.
The entry point is directly from the beach, which makes logistics easy and removes the need for boat transfers. After a short swim, you reach the reef, which is home to a wide variety of marine life. As its name suggests, moray eels are frequently spotted here, often peeking from crevices in the rocks or gliding through the reef. Their presence adds a sense of curiosity and excitement to every dive.
Besides moray eels, you can encounter a vibrant mix of Atlantic fish species. Schools of bream, damselfish, and wrasse move among the rocks, while octopuses and cuttlefish often hide in the sandy patches between the reefs. The reef structure itself is easy to navigate, with gentle slopes and clearly defined paths, making it a perfect spot for underwater photography and relaxed exploration.
Diving conditions at Moray reef are usually calm with good visibility. The dive is shallow, allowing for longer bottom times and excellent natural light, especially in the morning hours. These factors combine to create a comfortable and rewarding experience for all divers.
Moray reef is more than just convenient—it offers a snapshot of the underwater life Lanzarote has to offer, right at the doorstep of Dive College. It’s a perfect site for practising skills, enjoying marine life, or simply experiencing the joy of an easy and beautiful dive.
