Shore dive at montaña roja – vibrant volcanic reef full of life
Montaña Roja is one of the most accessible and rewarding dive sites near Dive College Lanzarote. Located directly opposite the dive center, this spot is perfect for a relaxed shore dive. With a maximum depth of 20 meters, it offers an ideal environment for divers of all experience levels.
The entry is straightforward: just walk into the ocean from the shore and begin your descent. Even in the shallow areas, there’s a surprising variety of marine life. The underwater landscape is shaped by volcanic activity, forming a rugged reef with plenty of crevices and hiding spots for marine creatures.
Among the volcanic formations, you’ll often encounter schools of bream and damselfish darting around. Parrotfish graze the rocks, while the occasional barracuda glides by in the blue. The sandy patches between the rocks are good places to spot rays, and if you’re lucky, you might even come face to face with a moray eel peeking from its lair.
One of the highlights of this site is the chance to see angel sharks. These elusive, flat-bodied sharks often rest motionless on the seabed, well-camouflaged but thrilling to spot if you know where to look. Our team knows the terrain well and can guide you to the best viewing spots.
Diving at Montaña Roja is more than just seeing fish – it’s about experiencing a vibrant reef shaped by Lanzarote’s volcanic history, just steps from our dive center. With easy access, rich biodiversity, and dramatic underwater scenery, it’s a dive not to be missed.
