Museo Atlántico Lanzarote

Playa Blanca has a unique new dive site: the Museo Atlántico. Here divers can visit the only underwater museum in Europe. Artist Jason deCaires Taylor is world renowned for his underwater creations.

Sculptures of the Museo Atlántico

The Museo Atlántico – designed to generate an artificial reef on a large scale – is now complete and consists of 10 different groups of sculptures. There is the Rubicon, a group of 35 human figures walking towards a wall. The models used for these sculptures are residents of Lanzarote. You can also see the famous Raft of Lampedusa, a reference to the current refugee crisis. Another component is a group of children in little brass boats, called Los Jolateros. Also, there are several hybrid sculptures (half human, half cactus) depicting the merging of nature and humanity, existing together in perfect harmony. The sculptures of a couple taking a selfie and some photographers refer to the use of technology in modern society. Deregulated is a playground in which businessmen in suits play on a swing and a seesaw. The last piece is a human gyre which consists of 200 life-size sculptures placed in a never ending circle.

The collection of statues is situated in a sheltered area near Coloradas, Playa Blanca at a depth of 12 to 15 metres. A visit to the Museo Atlántico is a magical experience which will hopefully lead to a better understanding of the need to value and protect our marine environment.

For divers and snorkelers

Almost every day Dive College Lanzarote takes divers with our boats to the underwater museum. Also, snorkelers get a chance to visit the Museo Atlántico Lanzarote on a special snorkelling trip. From the surface, however, you will only see the shapes of the statues, no details.

For non-divers

For people who do not have a dive license, we have a special program to visit the Museo Atlántico. This program consists of one try dive, a pool session to learn a few dive skills and a boat dive to Museo Atlántico. For the first dive, we explain the theory and you will do a dive from the shore together with an instructor. After the pool session, you will dive the Museo together with a private guide at a ratio of 2:1.

Back for more Absolutely amazing experience. All staff professional and there is a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere there. You can laugh with these guys and it puts you very much at ease. I tired scuba diving for the first time at Dive college in October 2021 I was so nervous but these guys are patient. My stomach had butterflies. I had a free trial in the pool first and then a try dive. I always felt safe and looked after.I was so at ease after my first experience I came back for more in April 2022 and did another try dive and the Museum Atlantico loved it.So BACK I came again this year and have done the Flamingo wall dive. Even though still an amateur I was guided by a professional diver and it is so beautiful under the ocean. These guys are AMAZING please try it. No one could possibly have been more nervous about it than me. I DID IT not just once but 3 times. I'm coming back for more in November.Had an amazing time definitely very much a BUNCH OF SPECIAL people, to me ANYWAY.

Great team supporting my kids with their first diving experience. Found Dive College to be one of few that offered diving for kids (8 & 11 years old) and I booked the bubbelmaker experience through whatsapp. Upon arrival kids were geared up and got the diving instructions in their native language (Dutch). Quick tester in the swimming pool and off into the great ocean. Kids very much enjoyed their first diving experience and we have the video's and photo's to make the memory ever lasting!

Great Experience, what are you waiting for? We're currently on our way back to our hotel with the transfer option they have available. It was a great experience and the under water museum was fantastic. The staff were professional, polite, accommodating and a laugh to be around. Myself and my partner highly recommend them and the museum Atlantic. We looked through all the reviews beforehand, which most negative ones seem to expect a refund because they can't tolerate the activity. If in doubt I'd suggest doing a try dive before deciding if you want to spend the extra money for a more intense experience. Thank you Dive College and all your staff for an unforgettable experience. Fantastic entry point for anyone uncomfortable in water I (M32) took my mother (F57) along to try something out of our comfort zone. I'm not a particularly strong swimmer, but found this to be an absolutely great experience, and we're both delighted for having tried it. Throughout we were looked after and made to feel really safe.Mara picked us up and took us to the Dive College. We struggled into our wetsuits, got sorted out with flippers and snorkeling gear before heading down to the beach to swim out to the boat. Initially this felt quite daunting, but we were assured the suits would help keep us afloat, and once the flippers were on swimming in the sea -- even in choppy waves -- was really easy. Once on the boat, it was just a short 5 minute journey to the outside of Flamingo Beach, where we left the boat and entered the water. We swam around the outside of the rocks before entering the enclosed part of beach, all the while seeing a great range of life under water. Once we got into the enclosed part of the beach we spotted a few stingrays and took our time to explore. After about 25 minutes or more we slowly headed back to the boat, before getting taken back to the Dive College. We never felt rushed and was a great value (€38 for maybe 40-50 minutes in the water).Definitely something I want to do again, and felt like a great first step for trying scuba diving next time.Be sure to take towels and water for when you get out (you'll invariably drink some salt water when you're snorkeling).

Wonderful holiday activity This paddleboarding experience was so much fun! We were both total beginners, but Mara guided us through it and we were standing up and enjoying ourselves in no time. The session takes place in the Flamingo beach cove, so there were quite a lot of other swimmers and paddle boarders all around that we had to steer around - so not quite as private as we had expected from the photos but nonetheless had a blast and would absolutely do it again.
